Hello. My name is Avalee, and I like to bake. A lot.

My day job involves work on the web, and at night, I bake (it helps me to relax!) so this space combines both things I do well, and things I want to learn to do better (you decide which is which ;-)

Where did I learn how to bake?

I took Home Ec classes way back in the day and learned a lot.

I also learned a bit from baking with my mom and grandmothers.

Mostly though, it’s come through practice. That’s right kids: practice makes perfect (or at least edible.) These days if I want to figure something out, I look to Google and the interwebs to help– you’d be surprised at what you can learn there/here.

What do you like to bake?

A lot of cookies… and cakes… and these days I’m also learning how to make candy… and in the summer, ice cream is sure to make an appearance… and jams & preserves.

If there’s butter and sugar involved, I’m so there.

What about challenges?

One day I’d really like to make a cake pretty. No really! My cakes might taste as good as the ones that inspired them, but they never look quite as good as the photo that inspired them — my decorating skills are where I’ve got lots of room to grow. This is one thing I can only get better at.

Where are you?

I live and bake in my wee kitchen in Toronto. It’s a good place to be.
